Anchor Down: The Steadfastness of Christ's Present

“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39 NKJV)

Have you ever been on a boat in a choppy sea, feeling every swell and dip?  The world often feels this way—unpredictable, tossing us with waves of anxiety, fear, or sudden loss. In this week’s sermon, we heard how Jesus is our immovable Anchor, the one who keeps us connected to hope. But what happens when the storms feel so fierce you fear the chain might snap?

This passage from Romans is God's unwavering promise of unbreakable connection. It assures us that no circumstance, no power, no measure of time, or any physical force can sever our relationship with Christ. This isn't just a sweet thought; it’s a theological anchor that can stabilizes our minds and hearts. When the hopelessness grips you and makes you feel adrift, remember that your faith places you in Christ Jesus our Lord, and nothing can ever undo that bond. Your hope is not in your ability to hold onto Him, but in His eternal love holding onto you.

This week, when a wave of worry hits, stop, name one fear, and immediately declare Romans 8:39 aloud as a counter-truth: "Nothing can separate me from the love of God in Christ."
